The long-standing friendship between Türkiye and Hungary was elevated to an academic dimension with a strategic step taken in the field of higher education during the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Türkiye, at a ceremony held at Dolmabahçe Palace.
The “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education between Türkiye and Hungary” and its “Implementation Protocol for the Years 2025–2028” were signed by President of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) Erol Özvar and Hungary’s Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó, in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Orbán.
With the protocol, which aims to increase the mobility of students and academic staff between the two countries, support joint academic studies, and strengthen cooperation between universities, concrete steps will be taken in many areas, ranging from joint degree programs to student exchange, from internship opportunities to the recognition of diplomas.
Pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding, Türkiye and Hungary will encourage the establishment and implementation of joint degree programs at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Reciprocal exchange programs will be organized for students and academic staff.
Students will have the opportunity to undertake internships in the other country in the fields in which they are studying. Knowledge sharing will be accelerated through short-term research programs, joint workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Within the framework of their respective legislation, the two countries will offer each other’s students the opportunity to pursue their studies with scholarships.
