A team of students from Sivas University of Science and Technology (SBTU) claimed the top prize at the “Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Global Finals” held in China.
Competing in the global finals of the Huawei ICT Competition, one of the world's most comprehensive student competitions in the field of information and communication technologies, the SBTU team won the First Prize in the Network category, securing a significant international achievement.
The team had previously won first place at the Huawei ICT Competition European Regional Final, an event that brought together 600 students from 21 countries. Building on that success, the team maintained its outstanding performance at the global finals and reached the top of the competition.
The result once again demonstrated the international competitiveness of the human capital being trained by the Turkish higher education system in engineering and technology.
- “Engineering Education in Türkiye Exceeds Global Standards”
President of the Council of Higher Education Erol Özvar congratulated the students and academics on their achievement. “We are proud of our students. Such accomplishments on international platforms are among the most tangible indicators of the knowledge, skills, and competencies our young people possess,” he said.
Emphasizing that engineering education in Türkiye exceeds global standards, Özvar stated: “The success achieved by Turkish engineers in recent years, particularly in the defense industry, has earned widespread recognition. Beyond the defense sector, we have reached a level where we can compete globally in many engineering disciplines. The achievement of SBTU students proves to the world that our young people possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical, production-oriented, and problem-solving skills.”
Özvar noted that efforts to strengthen practice-oriented education, industry collaboration, and technology-focused programs in higher education are continuing, adding that he believes Turkish universities will achieve even greater international success in the years ahead.
SBTU Rector Prof. Mehmet Kul stated that the university follows an educational approach that places practical application alongside theory at its core. “Under the support and guidance of the President of the Council of Higher Education, we continue to strengthen our research and application infrastructure while constantly enhancing our laboratories and research centers. We have begun to reap the benefits of these efforts. The success we have achieved today is a concrete result of this approach,” he said.
The Huawei ICT Competition is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious information and communication technology competitions, providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge and skills on an international stage.
